About The Position

The Petroleum Construction Project Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for underground and aboveground storage tank construction and installation projects. This role requires a strong understanding of construction practices, materials, and regulatory requirements related to petroleum storage systems. The estimator ensures project feasibility by evaluating costs, collaborating with stakeholders, and maintaining industry compliance.

Requirements

• Typing on a keyboard
• Reading and verifying data, often in small print
• Sitting for up to 8 hours per day
• Talking on phone
• May require visits to job sites resulting in exposure to hazards typical of a construction site
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating, with specific experience in petroleum or storage tank construction highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry practices related to storage tank installation.
• Proficiency in construction estimation software and tools.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements for underground and aboveground storage tanks.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for storage tank construction and installation projects.
• Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documents to determine scope, materials, labor, and equipment requirements.
• Research and evaluate pricing for materials, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure competitive and realistic estimates.
• Develop and maintain unit cost databases for construction-related items.
• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to define project scope and address cost-related concerns.
• Assist in the preparation of project proposals, bids, and budgets based on client requirements and company standards.
• Provide clear and concise documentation and presentations to support project proposals and budget reviews.
• Ensure all estimates comply with relevant federal, state, and local regulations for petroleum storage systems.
• Stay informed about industry standards, best practices, and changes in compliance requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve estimating processes, tools, and methodologies.
• Stay updated on market trends, including material costs and labor rates, to refine accuracy.
