About The Position

Reviews and processes marine, aircraft, and business personal property returns to determine fair market value.  Performs Desk Audits of business personal property records to insure compliance to local personal property rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • No experience necessary; or,
  • any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Valid Driver's License in state of residency.
  • GA Dept. of Revenue Appraiser II Certification as defined by the current rules and regulations of Georgia must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Appraisal principles and practices;
  • Customer service principles;
  • Applicable laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Tax processing principles and practices.
  • Ability to make mathematical computations and tabulations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes data, values property, prepares findings, and assists in defending valuations or tax assessments.
  • Processes small to medium account tax returns based upon standard operating procedures.
  • Verifies property data and prepares data for valuation or tax assessment.
  • Responds to citizen questions and concerns regarding the valuation of property and receives additional assistance when necessary.
  • Establishes new accounts for appraisals and tax information.
  • Audits basic commercial and residential appraisals by verifying data and calculations.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Researches incomplete returns obtaining additional information such as balance sheets and depreciation schedules from businesses and property owners to determine value of personal property liable for ad valorem taxation.
  • Reviews information from taxpayers' accounting books to evaluate accuracy of returns ensuring all applicable property tax has been properly reported.
  • Conducts field investigations to locate business accounts not in compliance with Hall County personal property regulations; commences process for assessing valuation of property.
  • Reviews personal property tax digest for errors and omissions to insure accuracy in annual tax digest.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required
