About The Position

Under general supervision, the Personal Computer Coordinator provides advanced technical support, coordination, and guidance for personal computer systems, peripherals, and related networked resources across county divisions. This position serves as an escalation point and is responsible for evaluating end-user computing needs, coordinating hardware and software implementations, assisting with network and server initiatives, providing user training, and ensuring timely resolution of technical issues in accordance with county standards, policies, and best practices. The Personal Computer Coordinator acts as a liaison between end users, IT staff, and management to ensure reliable, secure, and effective use of micro-computer systems and related technologies.

Requirements

  • Must possess the physical, developmental and mental ability to perform job tasks, responsibilities and duties of the job
  • Graduation from an accredited high school/trade school or possession of an equivalent diploma and have a minimum of four (4) years of experience with problem determination and resolution on various micro-computer configurations.
  • Applicants must have working knowledge of networking and a variety of micro-computer hardware and software.
  • Applicants must possess and maintain a valid CompTIA A+ certification throughout their employment in this position.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to secure a valid Florida's driver's license at the time of employment within this classification.
  • A comparable combination of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications, except where licensure is required.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with personal computer users across various county divisions to discuss, evaluate, and document computing needs.
  • Evaluates individual user requirements and determines suitability of personal computer systems, peripherals, and software solutions.
  • Assists users in the development and use of common user groups, shared resources, data-sharing methods, and communication standards.
  • Ensures desktop support services align with county IT policies, security requirements, and established service standards.
  • Facilitates all necessary arrangements for equipment installation upon delivery of hardware and software products.
  • Coordinates installations, upgrades, and replacements to minimize disruption to county operations.
  • Completes work tickets, service requests, and project tasks within established time frames and service-level expectations.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of work performed, configurations, and asset information.
  • Assists Network Analysts with the setup, installation, configuration, and testing of new servers and related infrastructure.
  • Provides ongoing support, monitoring, and routine maintenance of file servers and associated services.
  • Supports connectivity to county networks, including troubleshooting access, permissions, and performance issues.
  • Assists with initial personal computer hardware and software installation and configuration.
  • Provides ongoing assistance to users with operational problems, software issues, and general computing needs.
  • Diagnoses and resolves issues in a timely manner using systematic troubleshooting methods and independent judgment.
  • Escalates complex issues appropriately while maintaining ownership through resolution.
  • Provides training and technical guidance to micro-computer users, including one-on-one and small group instruction.
  • Develops or contributes to user documentation, quick reference guides, and training materials as needed.
  • Maintains responsibility for continuous self-education and staying current on new and improved micro-computer hardware, software, and support tools.
  • Evaluates new or improved hardware, software, and peripheral technologies.
  • Makes recommendations to IT management regarding standardization, compatibility, lifecycle replacement, and improvements to end-user computing environments.
  • Assists in testing and pilot deployments prior to broader implementation.
  • Performs related duties as required to support county information technology operations.
