About The Position

Summit County, located in Utah, is recruiting a full-time Permit Technician willing to work within a team of dedicated professionals in Community Development. Performs a variety of routine administrative and building application processing and zoning information to architects, engineers, contractors, and others. Works under the general supervision of the Community Development Director. Works under the direct supervision of the Principal Planner. We are a drug free workplace conducting drug testing. SALARY RANGE: $25.07 - $35.11/hour

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent; AND
• Associate's degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Architecture, Geography, or related field; OR
• Two (2) + years of increasingly responsible experience in planning, permitting, zoning, construction, or a related environment.
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Provides accurate and timely information to architects, engineers, contractors, developers, property owners, and the general public regarding land use, planning, zoning, and subdivision regulations, as well as applicable state and local development and construction requirements.
• Reviews site plans and building plans for compliance with basic planning, development, zoning, and subdivision regulations. Reviews, processes, and issues routine planning and building permits, including but not limited to Low Impact Permits, Temporary Use Permits, and Sign Permits. Works with applicants to determine the legal status of parcels/lots in accordance with County and State ordinances.
• Creates, maintains, and updates planning and building activity reports, permit logs, and related statistical data.
• Conducts initial intake and completeness reviews of planning and building applications; performs basic plan reviews; schedules building inspections; responds to general inquiries; and conducts ordinance and code research as needed.
• Provides customer service and administrative support to the department, including telephone coverage, answering routine questions, routing calls, taking messages, and assisting the public at the front counter.
• Performs technical work related to day-to-day planning, zoning, and building operations.
• Advises the public, contractors, developers, and property owners on general zoning and land use matters, including permitted uses, zoning districts, lot sizes, setbacks, and applicable procedures and requirements of County zoning and subdivision regulations.
• Works with property owners to determine the legal status of parcels/lots; prepares and updates zoning and land use records and maps; provides research and technical assistance to planners and building inspectors; and assists in the enforcement of zoning and subdivision regulations.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
