About The Position

This position as a Permit Technician is located in St. George, LA, and is a key office role involving daily interaction with the public, city employees, inspectors, plans examiners, and the building official. The role demands strong customer service, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask. The Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing unbiased professional building code compliance services and enhancing the communities it serves. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience performing similar duties/tasks
  • Minimum typing speed of 50 WPM
  • Possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
  • Good time management, organization, telephone communication skills, attention to detail, and people skills
  • Must be able to successfully perform multi-task operations in conjunction with frequent interruptions
  • Perform a variety of duties requiring use of critical thinking, independent judgment, and technical knowledge
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is desired

Responsibilities

  • Interfacing with all customers to service their building department related needs.
  • Issuing and/or tracking permits through the permitting process, beginning with application acceptance, plan review, inspections and permit closure.
  • Establishing and maintaining systems to ensure that all files, letters, reference manuals, field inspection reports, permit files, blueprints, drawings, and other data or material is maintained in an organized fashion.
  • Working with plan examiners and inspectors throughout the company to develop and ensure consistent processes.
  • Assisting with public record requests.
  • Collecting permit fees at the end of the day; filling out daily cash collection sheets; dropping collected fees in safe.
  • Performing a variety of skilled secretarial functions; providing administrative support to departmental personnel; preparing correspondence, reports, and other documentation; updates, scans, and maintains the Department’s records and files.
  • Working additional hours, over a weekend, or a holiday with little to no advanced notice.
  • Other duties as appropriate for the role and as assigned by the Program Director.
