About The Position

The Permit Coordinator supports GDOT's Outdoor Advertising Program by managing permit applications, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, and maintaining accurate records. This role combines administrative support, regulatory research, and field oversight to ensure effective management of outdoor advertising across Georgia's highways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in business, public administration, planning, or related field (or 1+ year equivalent experience)
  • Experience with Synodas or similar permit systems
  • Familiarity with ACH/e-payment processes
  • Knowledge of Georgia Outdoor Advertising Control Act & Highway Beautification Act (23 CFR § 750; OCGA § 32-6-70 et seq.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; vendor-facing experience preferred
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) and workflow tools (Concur, Microsoft GP)
  • Experience reviewing technical documents (construction plans, utility permits, contracts, schedules, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Process and track outdoor advertising permits using Synodas and related systems
  • Review applications for accuracy; conduct field validations along rights-of-way
  • Maintain and QA/QC electronic permit database; generate reports and track compliance
  • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and internal staff on permitting and inventory
  • Assist with payments (ACH, e-checks, credit card) and manage invoices
  • Communicate permit status, explain rules, and represent GDOT before vendors; may provide hearing testimony
  • Conduct site visits to measure, inspect, and inventory signage in assigned districts
  • Research site plans, zoning documents, plats, and ordinances as needed
  • Provide guidance to internal/external stakeholders and represent GDOT in public forums
