About The Position

Holliston's Robert Adams Middle School is seeking a Permanent Building Substitute. In the absence of the educator (teacher or paraprofessional), the Permanent Building Substitute is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom educator. The Permanent Building Substitute is assigned to a single school building for the duration of a school year, and will report to that school each day to cover assignments, as scheduled by the building administrator(s). This will include covering for absent educators, but may also involve covering preparation periods or staying with a class while the educator attends a meeting, or in-service training. The Permanent Building Substitute may also perform various duties of a routine clerical nature, if assigned. Robert Adams Middle School: We are a grade 6-8 middle school immersed in a three year journey to evaluate and modify everything we do around the mindset of Personal Local Global (PLG). PLG encompases our greater vision that RAMS is here to develop critical thinkers, effective communicators and collaborative problem solvers, who are self-aware, curious, creative, compassionate, and resilient young adults- poised and prepared to pursue their passions and to contribute to an increasingly complex, interconnected and ever-changing world. Classrooms and schools need to be learner focused environments where students feel empowered to actively construct meaning, apply understandings, develop essential skills and grow individuals and learners in a dynamic, collaborative and interactive manner under the expert guidance of their team of teachers. This would include opportunities for voice and choice, development of complex problem solving and critical thinking skills, time for reflection and self assessment, opportunities to create and innovate, collaboration, relationship building, and targeted instruction and explicit feedback.

Requirements

Minimum of two years college education required.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults;
Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.
Outstanding oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
An unrelenting focus on student success, safety and accountability

Nice To Haves

Licensed, or eligible for licensure in assigned grade/subject by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education not required, but considered a plus
Bachelor's Degree considered a plus

Responsibilities

Reports to the building principal/school secretary upon arrival at the school building for daily assignment and reviews plans and schedules to be followed
Follows all policies, rules and procedures to which educators are subject, and which good teaching practices dictate.
Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which they are assigned.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Develops and maintains a positive learning environment.
Teaches the lesson as outlined in the educator's substitute folder, and consults with the department leader before initiating any teaching or other procedure not specified in the educator's substitute folder.
Comfortable using various types of technology including but not limited to the Google suite, academic platforms, projectors, and video conferencing.
Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precaution to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
Report any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to school administration.
Performs any other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the Principal or designee may from time to time assign.
