About The Position

Under the general direction of the Operating Room Director, provides education and assistance to the OR staff by performing various education competencies and orientation processes. Responsible for teaching, reviewing and final competency for orientee. Special Instructions Operating Room Experience required.

Requirements

  • Operating Room Experience required.
  • Minimum Education CNOR Preferred
  • RN, BLS, ACLS Required
  • Previous Circulating experience in an OR

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years of experience in an OR department or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have word processing experience.
  • Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
  • Computer literacy and adaptability required.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and judgment skills a must.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to calls and visits from employees, managers, and others and determines the urgency of the situation.
  • Suggests appropriate referrals.
  • Answers telephones, prioritizes, screens, and redirects calls.
  • Answers questions, handles routine matters, and takes messages.
  • Coordinates job posting process.
  • Composes correspondence, memos, and reports, as instructed.
  • Using a word processor, types, formats, edits, and proofreads a variety of materials, including correspondence, memos, reports, charts, statistics, and minutes, etc.
  • Prepares materials for meetings, inservices, and recognition programs, notifies participants, prepares agenda, orders food, schedules rooms, organizes room set‑up, takes and transcribes minutes of regular meetings (i.e., staff meetings, pension committee, etc.), and prepares correspondence regarding recognition programs.
  • Coordinates new-hire process, including preparing new-hire folders, conducting clear-in appointment, and filing new-hire folders.
  • Generates CORI report and diskette and mails to criminal history systems board, as scheduled.
  • Screens applicants and schedules interviews for HR liaisons/employment specialists.
  • Obtains comprehensive telephone references for candidates under consideration for employment.
  • Opens, reviews, prioritizes, and distributes interoffice and external mail.
  • Coordinates orientation program.
  • Works with HR liaison/employment specialist to develops a plan to ensure either attendance at orientation or return of completed documentation from self-ID packet.
  • Follows all organizational and departmental policies and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
  • Responsibly follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Advises employees and managers about proper HR policies and procedures.
  • Assists the HR liaison in revising HR policies and procedures to reflect current legislation, practice, etc., and creating new policies where appropriate.
