About The Position
Step into the Perfusion Department at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and be a catalyst for life-saving clinical care. Our department is known by many as one of the best perfusion school sites in the country, and it is recognized around the world for its innovative techniques many of which have been peer-reviewed and published in major journals. We were the first to use CARDIOHELP, the smallest heart-lung machine in the world. And we continue to lead initiatives that shape the field of clinical perfusion. Find out how you can help, Assist in the execution of various protocols related to the safe and effective administration of Clinical Perfusion. Incumbents will work alongside a licensed Perfusionist to perform all tasks as directed by the Chief Perfusionist.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from a recognized college or university or bachelor's degree and enrolled in an accredited school of cardiovascular perfusion and completed the case requirements to sit for the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Board Examination
- Must obtain NYS Perfusion license within one year of date of hire as Perfusionist Intern

Responsibilities
- Set up operation of the heart-lung machine according to protocols prescribed by the Attending Surgeon.
- Perform extracorporeal circulation/cardiopulmonary support.
- Inject medication via heart-lung machine as prescribed and by order of the Anesthesiologist or Surgeon.
- Perform ancillary duties, such as cell saving, ECMO, VAD, plasma saving and IABP, etc.
- Maintain records related to the above procedures.
- Adhere to Infection Controls Procedures.
- Stock, clean, and maintain equipment and supplies as needed.
- Participate in research and teaching students from affiliated perfusion schools.
- Attend continuing education conferences.
- Is competent to care for patients based upon the age groups treated.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
