The Perfusion Technician role supports the high-quality cardiovascular care provided across the Atlantic Health System Heart Care network, which includes the largest cardiac surgery program in New Jersey at Morristown Medical Center’s Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute.

Responsibilities

  • Build and prime perfusion related devices including, but not limited to: Cellsaver/Autotransfusion, Heart/Lung machine, PRP, BMAC
  • Ensures appropriate set up and break down of equipment in cardiac operating rooms.
  • Provide autologous blood recovery and biologic therapy as required
  • Manages perfusion supplies and equipment inventory at all AHS hospitals.
  • Collect clinical samples and deliver to lab for processing.
  • Maintain optimal communication, close cooperation, and consultation with perfusionist and physicians during delivery of services
  • Assist with the transport of equipment and gain understanding of new equipment or processes, where applicable
  • Maintain proficiency with the operation and maintenance of a variety of autologous blood equipment and procedures such as autologous cell salvage, production of concentrated platelet rich plasma
  • Maintain appropriate, timely, and accurate documentation including pre-procedure checklist and filing of all records
  • Assist in the education, orientation, and training of new staff
  • Supports hospitals throughout the AHS network, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
