This role is responsible for organizing, planning and implementing a variety of performing arts programs including classes, workshops, and special events. In addition to work as an instructor, this position will also support the department in performing back-of-house duties during productions in the Theater. During the summer, this position will be assisting with summer camps at the Cultural Arts Center. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts, Performing Arts, Theater or Music; with two years of experience in performing and teaching performing arts disciplines, to include singing, acting/theater, dance or music. Experience in theater or event management is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours, including evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.
  • Knowledge of a variety of performing art disciplines and terminology, stage/theater production.
  • Knowledge of budgeting principles.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of live production techniques and operations, experience developing new classes.
  • Knowledge of event logistics specific to media, literary, performing and visual arts.
  • Knowledge of best practices in devising and delivering services for individuals with disabilities.
  • Skill in the use of computers and other standard office equipment.
  • Skill in teaching and instruction of performing arts to a variety of ages and abilities.
  • Skill in community outreach and event marketing.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Experience in theater or event management is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, produces and assists with the performing arts components for various shows, special events and festivals. Produces programs with individuals and internal and external organizations.
  • Provides onsite direction and oversight of program participants and guests, center equipment and facilities, to include evening and weekend special events, programs and performances.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies. Monitors and ensures City equipment and supplies, teaching studios and other program areas are well maintained; equipment is properly used, cleaned and stored; and facility/equipment handling procedures are in place, understood and practiced by program participants.
  • Teaches performing arts classes and workshops as scheduled in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Helps to promote programs and events, builds community awareness and recruits participants through the delivery of diverse programs and community outreach activities.
  • On occasion, manages and performs preparatory duties for department programs and outside rental events, including set up and breakdown for indoor and outdoor events, classes, meetings and performances.
  • Maintains and creates inventory of needed supplies for classes and performances, submits in a timely fashion to the Program Manager requests for supplies and equipment.
  • Assists in budget preparation and administration.
  • May assist with fee collection and participant registration.
  • Prepares various reports as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
