About The Position

The Performing Arts Camp Coordinator is responsible for planning, directing and implementing assigned performing arts activities and camp productions. This position oversees instructional programming and ensures a safe, engaging and inclusive performing arts camp experience for children of varying ages. This is a seasonal, part-time position. The coordinator must be available to work flexible hours between 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Scheduled hours will vary based on program needs and will not exceed 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Demonstrated experience of participation in performing arts.
  • CPR/AED & First Aid certification is required prior to the first camp shift.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, children and parents/guardians.
  • Knowledge of supplies, materials, equipment and instructional tools used in performing arts camp programming.
  • Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal staff.
  • Ability to understand, follow and enforce policies, procedures and safety regulations.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry and move equipment and supplies up to 15 pounds, as needed.
  • Ability to observe staff and children’s behavior, assess appropriateness, and enforce safety regulations and policies.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify children and staff needs and recognize potential safety hazards.
  • Cognitive ability to apply supervisory authority and behavior management techniques appropriately.
  • Ability to function in environments that may be loud, active or fast-paced.
  • Ability to work primarily in indoor environments.

  • Education or training related to performing arts, performances or instruction preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement performing arts camp programing, including scripting, auditions, set design, choreography and production elements.
  • Teach and direct performing arts activities and play productions for children across a wide range of ages.
  • Develop and implement a structured curriculum that establishes routine and progression throughout each session.
  • Supervise, support and assist in evaluating Performing Arts Camp Counselors and Part-Time Aides.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and training to camp staff to ensure program quality and safety.
  • Monitor program supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Oversee the use, care and return of all camp equipment and materials.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision of children and staff throughout the camp day.
  • Follow and enforce all PHPD policies, procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Respond to emergency situations and ensure proper first aid and CPR procedures are followed.
  • Observe staff and children behavior, address concerns and apply appropriate behavior management and corrective actions.
  • Make recommendations to camp leadership regarding program improvements or modifications.
  • Maintain effective and professional communication with staff, children, parents/guardians and supervisors.
