Working as a member of a highly collaborative team, the Performance Program Manager for the Office of Community Engagement is responsible for administering a variety of performance-based programs that place Juilliard college students in one-time and ongoing performance opportunities throughout New York City as they learn to bring community engagement into their professional artistic practice. A person who will be successful in this position should have experience as a performing artist, be enthusiastic about working with college-age artists, and they should be able to approach program administration through a student development lens. About Community Engagement Performances: Through a combination of application-based Fellowship programs, department and Lincoln Center Campus relationships, and initiatives based in the office of Community Engagement, the 300-350 performances presented by this office engage 150 Juilliard students and nearly 10,000 New Yorkers annually. The largest program, the Gluck Community Service Fellowship, presents 25-30 multidisciplinary ensembles in 300-400 performances annually in 50+ non-traditional performance spaces, including hospitals, elder care facilities, and community centers. The Community Engagement Performance Roster presents 10-20 performances by first-year graduate-level musicians in community organizations. The Young People’s Concert Series tours 2-4 ensembles each spring who lead educational concerts in elementary schools across the city. Additional programming includes Relaxed Performances (designed for New Yorkers of all ages who have sensory and neurodivergent needs), department run-out concerts (bringing ensembles to Community Engagement sites), and special projects. Juilliard students in these performances are supported by the Office of Community Engagement through Fellowship-based training, project-based advising, and regular observation and feedback of community-based performance work. This office administers five (5) teaching and performance Fellowships (120-150 Fellowships annually) and public-facing educational events which take place both on-campus and throughout New York City, both in-person and virtually (Young People’s Concert series, Relaxed Performances, department run-out concerts). The office also works closely with the Alan D. Marks Center for Career Services and Entrepreneurship, which connects students and alumni to professional opportunities and resources through grant programs, an online Career Portal, a gigging service called Hire Juilliard Performers program, an annual Entrepreneurship Symposium, curricular and co-curricular offerings, and one-on-one career advising. The goal of all of these programs is to support Juilliard college students and alumni become communicative, socially responsible artists; to learn to serve the cultural needs of their communities; and to develop agency in their careers. This position reports to the Director of Community Engagement and collaborates with the Assistant Dean of Community Engagement and Career Services, the Program Manager for the Morse Teaching Artist Program, the Administrative Manager for Community Engagement and Career Services, and the Community Engagement Apprentice. Business hours for the office are Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, and this role will require regular weekend work. Hybrid schedules are available. The salary for this role is $75,000 per year.
