The role of Percussion Manager (PM) includes assisting and supporting BSYO admin and conductors in set-up and teardown of rehearsal locations, serving as a mentor for students, percussion staff, and participating in rehearsals as an instrumentalist as necessary. The PM is responsible for preparing the percussion section for every BSYO rehearsal, which includes moving any required instruments to each rehearsal location and ensuring that the section for each orchestra is set up. It is preferred that the PM be a Towson Student so that they may have access to our percussion storage room in that rehearsal location. The expected time commitment as a Percussion Assistant is approximately 7 hours per week excluding special circumstances (concerts, special events, etc.). Time commitment may be greater in a few weeks. The PM will split their time between all ensembles to ensure set ups are correct. Rehearsal specifics will be communicated to you by the Percussion Manager, Operations Coordinator, and BSYO Manager. The role involves organization, set-up and teardown of percussion equipment, as well as supervising transportation of equipment to different rehearsal rooms. The PM assists conductors in making Percussion assignments. The overarching goal for the PA is to mentor and guide developing percussionists in all aspects. This role requires the ability to lift up to 45 pounds regularly, carry and/or move equipment regularly and frequent standing, walking, pushing and pulling while teaching and supervising students to largely be responsible for this work.
