About The Position

The role of the Physical Therapy Assistant is to provide therapy treatments as established by the Physical Therapist’s plan of care and to teach the patient and/or family how to carry out home programs prescribed. The Physical Therapy Assistant demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a two-year college level program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • At least one year of experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant
  • BLS certified or eligible
  • Ability to type 25 WPM
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills
  • Comfortable with basic computer programs and e-mail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous homecare experience preferred
  • Homecare knowledge preferred

Responsibilities

  • Physical therapy activities planned, delegated and supervised by the physical therapist.
  • Discusses established discharge goals during treatment and provides information on goals met/unmet to physical therapist.
  • Participates in educating patient and family/caregiver per prescribed physician’s plan of care.
  • Instructs patients in care and use of equipment as directed by physician and physical therapist.
  • Displays high regard for personal dignity, diversity and uniqueness of individuals (Cultural/Religious Sensitivity; Confidentiality; Privacy; Age Specific Competencies).
  • Evaluate patient needs on a continuous basis recognizing changes that need to be made in the plan of care and notifying the Physical Therapist of these needs.
  • Makes joint visits with the Physical Therapist as needed.
  • Maintains interdisciplinary communication with other disciplines via written and verbal means.
  • Complete team meeting reports including activities, patient’s response to treatment and progress toward goals.
  • Coordinates scheduling of patients
  • Completes required agency forms to record time and patient progress in a timely manner.
  • Assists with other clinical record keeping as deemed appropriate.
  • Participates in inservice programs and staff meetings as required.
  • Maintains confidentiality with all information in the appropriate manner.
  • Contributes to organization success targets for patient satisfaction and net operating margin by providing excellent customer service performance.
