A chaplain provides non-judgmental spiritual care to BIDMC patients, families, and staff regardless of faith tradition. Chaplains are responsible for spiritual assessment, timely documentation in the online medical record, communication with other members of the care team, on-call coverage, and occasionally presiding at community events at the medical center. The role requires energy for teamwork and outreach. Essential responsibilities include providing chaplaincy services that address personal, spiritual, emotional, and psychosocial issues for patients and families. The chaplain will visit patients who request services or are referred, work closely with multidisciplinary teams, provide timely documentation, offer consultation and education to the team, and present clinical/pastoral work in various settings. The position also involves participating in supervision, serving as a mentor to less experienced staff, and supporting an environment of idea sharing and professional development.
