About The Position

As Northslope's first People Operations team member, you'll be tasked with improving and managing the entire employee lifecycle, from offer letter to offboarding and everything in between. This isn't a role where you implement cookie-cutter HR playbooks. You'll build and iterate on people systems that actually make sense for our team, our culture, and our growth trajectory to 200+ employees over the next year. Day to day, you'll tackle everything from benefits administration and equity tracking to compliance coordination and new hire onboarding. You'll be the go-to person for employees navigating questions about their equity, benefits, or workplace policies. You'll work with brokers, payroll providers, and legal counsel to ensure our team is well-supported across multiple countries and jurisdictions. And you'll move fast, juggling multiple workstreams simultaneously while maintaining a high bar for execution and employee experience. This role requires someone who is deeply entrepreneurial, takes complete ownership of problems from start to finish, and operates with minimal oversight. You'll need to learn quickly (including international benefits administration for UK and Canada), make decisions autonomously, and constantly iterate to improve how we support our people.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of Operations experience, ideally at a high-growth startup or fast-paced company. You've owned meaningful operations projects and have battle scars from scaling through rapid growth.
  • Entrepreneurial ownership mindset. You don't need detailed instructions or constant check-ins. You see a problem, you own it end-to-end, and you drive it to completion. You're comfortable operating with ambiguity and building systems from scratch.
  • Employee-first orientation. You genuinely care about creating an excellent employee experience. You don't do things because "that's how it's always been done." You question conventions and build solutions that actually make sense for our team.
  • Exceptional operational execution. You can juggle many concurrent workstreams without dropping balls. You're hyper-organized, detail-oriented, and maintain high quality even when moving fast.
  • Bias toward iteration. You ship quickly, gather feedback, and improve continuously. Nothing is ever "set it and forget it." You're always looking for ways to make things better.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. You build trust easily with employees at all levels. You can explain complex topics (like equity or benefits) in simple, accessible language. You handle sensitive situations with empathy and discretion.
  • Fast, curious learner. You'll need to learn UK and Canadian benefits administration, visa sponsorship processes, and various state-level compliance requirements on the job. You're comfortable diving into unfamiliar territory and figuring things out quickly.
  • Comfortable with multi-jurisdictional complexity. We have employees across the US, UK, and Canada. You're energized (not overwhelmed) by managing benefits, payroll, and compliance across multiple countries and 10+ US states.
  • Excited to work in-person from our New York office. We believe in-person collaboration makes us stronger, and we're building an office culture people want to be part of.
