The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for providing information and referral services to clients needing to access community resources. The Peer Support Specialist is an active member of the team and provides peer recovery support services to individuals with substance use disorders. Under supervision of the care coordinator or clinical manager, they will function as a role model to peers. They are responsible for exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills, serving as an advocate, and providing information about peer support in outpatient and ambulatory settings. The Peer Support Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist clients in regaining independence within the community and ownership over their own recovery process. The Peer Support Specialist will provide services in the community including at other agencies, correction sites, and in the home.
