About The Position

SET Peer Success Coach is a student leadership position responsible for providing support to first year and transfer undergraduate students during their transition to UWSP. The SET Peer Success Coach will serve as a support student leader for the First-Year Experience Seminar class, role model and mentor to students inside and outside of the classrooms by connecting them to on- and off campus resources. In addition, assist in coordinating events and programs that provide engaging, inclusive, and academically integrated transitional experiences to enhance student belonging, development and success at UWSP.

Requirements

  • Must be a current full-time undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in good academic standing.
  • Must be Sophomore standing or higher.
  • Strong written, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiar with UWSP Campus (i.e., Academic resources, residential life, campus activities)
  • Ability to address sensitive concerns of students in a professional, tactful, and confidential manner
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain professionalism.
  • Ability to foster an open, friendly, and engaging environment that supports and respects the diverse needs of students

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a mentor, tutor, or related leadership position.
  • Experience facilitating group discussions or presentations.
  • Experience planning events

Responsibilities

  • Class Attendance: Must attend at least one First Year Experience Seminar class in the fall and one Academic and Career Exploration Workshop in the spring semester to help support students inside and outside of the classroom. Serve as a liaison between students and faculty/staff, providing insights into student needs.
  • Mentorship/Coaching: Support assigned case load of first year and transfer undergraduate students to ensure successful transition to UWSP campus and community. Build positive mentoring relationships with first year and/or transfer undergraduate students. Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions to provide academic and personal support. Assist students that have questions and be able to schedule meetings with SET Coordinator(s). Help students develop effective study strategies, time management, and goal-setting skills. Provide guidance on campus resources, clubs, and involvement opportunities.
  • Program and Office Support: Office support at selected and/or assigned Center. Facilitate group discussions, workshops, or activities related to student success. Assist with first-year experience events, orientation, and campus programming. Encourage student engagement and a sense of belonging within the campus community.
  • Other Expectations: Represent SET and UWSP in a manner that exemplifies genuine respect and professionalism. Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in mentoring relationships. Participate in ongoing training and professional development sessions. Represent SET at events such as ViewPoints Day, Orientation, campus visits. Other duties as assigned.
