About The Position

This Peer Recovery Support Specialist position is responsible for serving clients with substance use disorders. Peer support specialists in the substance use treatment field have lived experience of recovery from problematic substance use and special training to work with people seeking or in recovery. A peer support specialist uses his/her lived experience and training to support clients in exploring the many pathways to recovery, navigating treatment, identifying, building strengths, discovering resilience, connecting to others in recovery, finding needed resources, developing new behaviors and ways of thinking, advocating for themselves, and celebrating recovery accomplishments.

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma
  • Certification: Peer Recovery Support Certification and one year of previous experience with substance use disorders.
  • First Aid, and Descalation which will be provided if needed
  • Other: Must meet all requirements associated with completing an application and receiving approval to bill Medicaid for services rendered.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and appropriate automobile liability insurance.
  • Knowledge: Understanding the philosophy and purposes of peer support services; how to work with community partners to improve collaborative efforts and build referral source satisfaction.
  • Skills: Capacity to perform duties effectively under potential emotional stress and conflict situations.
  • Proficiency in utilizing basic computer skills and office equipment for documentation and communication purposes.
  • Practice of a client-focused approach, demonstrating active listening skills, reading comprehension, critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Active listening, reading comprehension, critical thinking, excellent verbal, and written communication skills
  • Abilities: Willingness and physical capability to engage in activities essential to meet the fundamental needs of individuals served. This includes occasional assistance in relocating individuals to new living situations, aiding with shopping, and instructing daily living skills, as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking with various populations.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Participate with the treatment team in the development of an individualized, comprehensive treatment plan
  • Provide coordination and assistance in crisis intervention/emergency services and stabilization.
  • Participate in meetings of community groups to educate about recovery, leading recovery dialogs, and advocate for consumer client needs, / self-help sessions with consumer.
  • Maintain all documentation as required by the agency in its policies & procedures or by regulatory bodies. This includes having paperwork turned in on a timely basis.
  • Maintain an active caseload by accepting, transferring, and closing individuals in a timely manner.
  • Conduct and gather data for client interviews needed for the Government Performance and Results Modernization Act (GPRA).
  • Maintain client care database by entering latest information as it becomes available; verifying findings and reports; backing up data.
  • Attend and take part in regular supervision, which may include participation in group problem solving, presenting cases for review, and sharing information on resources in the community.
  • Maintain agency-required annual training including client rights and grievances, safety training, infection control, and others as required by accrediting bodies.

  • Participate in the SUD (Substance Use Disorders) treatment team to ensure services are accessed and by covering for others when necessary.
  • Ensure that productivity is at expected levels.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Be willing to work on a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the clients.
  • Adhere to all organizational and departmental policies, including compliance with all behavioral and ethical expectations.
