About The Position

Peer Mentors support the students of Los Angeles with skill-building support by providing peer mentorship in areas related to life-skills development, academic, and social wellness. Peer Mentors are primarily assigned to support 1- 2 semester students, along with transfer, 5Z and 7AC students. However, a student from any semester can be assigned a Peer Mentor by Student Success staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Display an ability to serve as a positive role model and resource for AMDA students.
  • Be actively enrolled at AMDA during the Spring 2026 term.
  • Must be a 3rd - 7th-semester undergraduate or graduate student during employment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to individual learning styles.
  • Positive organizational skills & time management skills.
  • Possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA and remain in good academic standing while serving as Peer Mentor.
  • Hold an exemplary attendance and conduct record as deemed by and at the discretion of the staff of the Student Affairs department.
  • Peer Mentors must hold a minimum of 15 office hours per month within the Student Life office completing administrative, and/or programmatic obligations.
  • This includes being present during a set portion of the academic break between semesters through the end of Week 15.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a role model and mentors students by encouraging and modeling a successful balance of academic, social and college life.
  • Build positive relationships with members of assigned student groups through weekly check-in emails, one-on-one study sessions, hosting campus-wide events to provide necessary resources and encourage community engagement as needed.
  • Share relevant information about important academic weeks, campus events, resources, services, and policies to students through outreach initiatives as directed by Student Success staff members.
  • Facilitate intentional weekly events for students, including one educational and one social initiative, per week.
  • Promote student personal growth, academic success, participation in leadership, college-sponsored programs, student organizations, and other activities.
  • Provide student referrals to campus and community resources as appropriate.
  • Maintains an active and visible role and is available and approachable for students.
  • Other Administrative duties, as assigned.
