About The Position

Peer Leaders advance first-year student success by building community, strengthening belonging, and delivering consistent outreach and support. As peer role models and resource navigators, they clarify college processes, remove barriers to engagement, and connect students to the tools and services that drive academic persistence and holistic growth.

  • May require some evening and weekend shifts.
  • Must be currently enrolled at Austin Community College.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation each day to complete expected travel throughout the ACC District.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Work safely and follow safety rules.
  • Report unsafe working conditions and behavior.
  • Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive and welcoming ACC representative who supports first-year students in navigating their transition to college.
  • Build meaningful peer-to-peer connections that foster belonging, engagement, and affirmation.
  • Maintain proactive contact with assigned first-year students through approved ACC communication channels and engagement touchpoints.
  • Provide timely, clear, and student-friendly communication; respond to inquiries and direct students to appropriate resources.
  • Promote participation in Orientation follow-up activities, OFYE programs, Riverbat Connection Hours, and other first-year engagement opportunities.
  • Connect students to campus resources, including Academic Advising, Accelerated Learning Support, Career Life Design Services, Transfer Services, CARE Network (Basic Needs), Financial Aid, Student Rights & Responsibilities, Student Life & Leadership, and related support services.
  • Encourage help-seeking behaviors and appropriately escalate student concerns to professional staff when needed.
  • Track student engagement, communication outreach, and referral activity using OFYE-approved systems.
  • Assist with outreach campaigns (e.g., orientation status reminders, milestone check-ins) throughout summer and fall terms.
  • Support planning and implementation of OFYE events, tabling efforts, and community-building initiatives.
  • Perform general office and administrative support tasks, including data entry, maintaining tracking logs, producing materials, and operating standard office equipment.
  • Participate in marketing campaigns, including Social Media posts, newsletters, ACCTV, and other channels.
  • Other duties as assigned.
