About The Position

Breastfeeding Education and Support: Uses excellent customer service and communication skills in ongoing contact with pregnant and breastfeeding WIC participants in the clinic setting on the telephone, during group classes, support groups or outreach events. Must adhere to confidentiality requirements. Will assist with clinic and health fair displays, issue and teach use of breast pumps; perform other duties as assigned. Referrals: Make referrals to WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator or other designated Health Professional when appropriate. Administrative: Maintain accurate and thorough documentation, filing systems, and schedule of participant contacts in an organized and consistent manner. Utilize various computer applications including email, social media and WIC Certification System. Stays current with state and local updates including WIC Policy and Procedure, WIC All Projects Letters (APL), meeting minutes and other pertinent materials. Organizational Duties: Complete WIC-required trainings – State-approved breastfeeding training (20 hours), Conflict of Interest, Civil Rights, VENA, WIC System Security, USDA Breastfeeding Curriculum. Must complete a minimum of six hours continuing education per year in the field of lactation. Participate in quality improvement team projects and quality improvement training initiatives as applicable/ required and incorporate the principles of quality improvement into daily work activities. Incident Command System/National Incident Management System Training. Level to be determined by Preparedness Coordinator. Provides emergency response support. Other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Must have breastfed one baby for at least six months.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Be available to offer after-hours breastfeeding support to WIC mothers.
  • Enthusiasm for breastfeeding and desire to assist WIC mothers in meeting their breastfeeding goals.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Criminal Background Check and Pre-employment Drug Testing

  • Current or former WIC participant preferred.
