About The Position

The Peer Health Education Graduate Student Assistant is a 20-hour-per-week, part-time staff position within the Department of University Recreation & Wellness. The Peer Health Education Graduate Student Assistant will report directly to the Peer Health Education Coordinator, The Peer Health Education Graduate Assistant will support the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the Peers Care health education program, which provides peer-led wellness programming for college students. Responsibilities will include student leadership development, program coordination, outreach support, and data evaluation. The Peer Health Education Graduate Student Assistant may also assist with one-on-one wellness coaching sessions, as needed, for students seeking support to improve their well-being.

Requirements

  • Completed bachelor's degree and admission to a graduate program at Florida Gulf Coast University.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire the Peers Care team to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, SharePoint, Word, Outlook) and affiliated campus software programs such as Eagle Link and Canvas.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Availability to serve as a Graduate Assistant for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
  • Availability to assist with leading after-hours team development such as the Peers Care Retreat and Certified Peer Educator training (dates provided upon hire).
  • Demonstrates creativity, adaptability, and interest in current wellness and health promotion trends.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving techniques.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the ongoing development of Peer Health Educators through one-on-one meetings, programming observations, and performance evaluations.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new outreach initiatives based on current wellness needs and trends.
  • Attend and assist with leading the bi-weekly Peers Care team meetings held Wednesday mornings.
  • Assist with the staffing of educational tables, events, programs, and InSTALLments distribution.
  • Assist with the development and facilitation of wellness-related trainings during bi-weekly team meetings throughout new hire onboarding.
  • Assists with recruitment, selection, and onboarding new Peer Health Educators.
  • Oversee Peers Care program data tracking and analyze findings to improve outreach efforts.
  • Lead one-on-one wellness coaching sessions to support FGCU students with their health goals, as needed.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Peer Health Education Coordinator to support program operations.
  • Attend monthly University Recreation & Wellness professional staff meetings and biweekly Prevention & Wellness professional staff team meetings.
  • Assist with University Recreation & Wellness signature events (Dates provided upon hire).
  • Services on one University Recreation & Wellness department committee.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in all aspects of program administration.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
