About The Position

The Peer Engagement Specialist will inspire and strengthen the voice of our youth/young persons. They strive to make a difference by providing education, empowerment, and support. They will advocate for the youth/young persons, and they will advocate for positive change in youth/young adult serving systems, and for the reduction in stigma.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Minimum of two years of lived experience.
  • Lived experience and willingness to utilize lived experience within their role.
  • CHW/CRS certified or willing to receive CHW/CRS training required
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners.
  • Ability to work as a treatment team member.
  • Demonstrates skill and sensitivity to cultural differences.
  • Ability and willingness to travel on behalf of agency need and work in a youth/young person's home and community setting.

  • Incorporates the six principles of trauma informed care throughout all aspects of their work.
  • Commitment to Transition to Independence Process (TIP) principles (Youth or Young Adult voice and choice, Strength-Based, Individualized, Outcome Based, Team Based, Culturally Competent, Community Based, Unconditional Care, Collaboration, and Natural Supports)
  • Explores with the youth/young adults their strengths and needs, their culture and visions.
  • Assess all TIP Domains
  • Provides coaching, advocacy, and peer support to youth/young adults in accordance with the individualized service plan, including crisis support per agency policy and procedures.
  • Assist youth with finding and connecting with resources within the community.
  • Inspires and strengthens the voice of the Youth or Young Adult.
  • Finds value in collaboration with all treatment team providers and fosters team collaboration to ensure the youth/young adults are successful in their treatment.
  • Strives to make a difference through education, empowerment, and support from training and their own lived experience.
  • Acts as an advocate and empowers the youth/young adults in their treatment and with other systems.
  • Acts as an advocate for positive change in youth or young adult serving systems and for reducing stigma.
  • Model's self-help and self-advocacy, utilizing the principles outlined by the Peer Code of Values and Competencies
  • Complies with documentation requirements according to agency policies.
  • Engages community partners through hosting or assisting with community events that support youth/young persons in their recovery.
  • Completes administrative tasks, such as attending training, meetings, serving on committees as assigned, engaging in supervision as identified and according to policy.
