Job Title: Peer Counselor Division/Program: Merced Crisis Residential Unit Starting Compensation: 18.00 - 20.00 USD Per Hour Working Location: Merced, CA Working Hours/Shift: Sun-Thurs 11am-7:30pm Why Join Our Team? One (1) year experience with seriously emotionally disturbed adults preferred. Lived experience in areas of neurological disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, cognitive or learning disabilities, and/or recovery from substance abuse How you will make a difference: Be available to meet with clients and assigned workers as needed Collaborate with clinicians regarding clients’ needs Assist clients in identifying and prioritizing aftercare options. Help clients understand the community mental health system, as well as their options and rights within that system. Assisting clients in communicating with other clinicians, especially during crisis. Assisting social workers with family, placement, and community agency contacts. Advocating on behalf of clients and promoting self-advocacy. Modeling and training clients in independent living skills. Providing emotional support for clients Providing feedback describing interactions with clients. Encourages client’s interaction and socialization with other peers, providing feedback to clients on appropriate behavior while acting as a role model. Attends and actively participates in Treatment Team meetings. Transports clients in facility vehicles as directed Assisting in training other Peer Support Counselors in future trainings. Preparing client meals/snacks as needed Assisting with clients rounds/observations as needed Division/Program Overview: 24/7 inpatient voluntary program 16-bed facility for adults (ages 18-59) Rehabilitation/recovery services, including substance use rehabilitation services Pre-vocational or vocational counseling Medication evaluation and support services Learn more about SBHG at : https://www.starsinc.com/stars-inc/ For Additional Information: [email protected] In accordance with California law, the grade for this position is 17.46 - 24.44. Placement within the grade is determined based on experience, internal equity, and other factors permitted by law.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year experience with seriously emotionally disturbed adults preferred.

Responsibilities
