About The Position

The Peeler Operator is responsible for operating the pole shaver and its associated system components in a productive, efficient, and safe manner. Key duties include processing barkie poles through the shaving machine, ensuring clean bark removal and smooth pole shaving, and maintaining the shaver system equipment through daily service, inspection, greasing, and cleaning. The operator will also be responsible for changing and maintaining cutter parts, properly setting and calibrating knives for optimal efficiency, and securing operating systems using established start-up and shut-down procedures. The role involves documenting and reporting quality, mechanical, and operational production data to the supervisor. Additionally, the operator will assist with the maintenance and repair of system equipment, the receipt of inbound materials (including tallying, marking loads, and recording information), and the inspection and reclassification of round stock. Further responsibilities include assisting in the loading and unloading of products, setting dunnage, loading trucks and rail cars, and banding loads, as well as cutting, loading, and shipping salvage logs and firewood. The operator is expected to communicate production quality concerns to appropriate individuals and actively participate in the company's safety program.
