About The Position

Pediatric Neurology Sleep Medicine Physician – Neuro Sleep Program CHOC Specialists The CHOC Specialists and Pediatric Subspecialty Faculty (PSF) are seeking a full-time Board Certified/Eligible Pediatric Sleep Medicine and Pediatric Neurology Physician for treatment of patients with neurologic disorders, including, but not limited to epilepsy, neurodegenerative diseases, Down Syndrome, and autism. Interest in treating neurodevelopmental and behavioral sleep disorders in a team-based approach would highly complement this position. This individual will be instrumental in expanding our Neuro Sleep Program, with a specific focus on narcolepsy, epilepsy, and complex sleep diagnostics. The physician will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams at CHOC Children’s Hospital (eight inpatient studies per night) and at CHOC Mission Hospital (four inpatient studies per night). This role presents a unique opportunity to lead innovative sleep care initiatives, establish new research programs, and serve as a thought leader in pediatric neuro sleep medicine by participating in one or more of the program highlights . The candidate must be eligible for an unrestricted California medical license. Program Highlights and Opportunities: Advanced Sleep Diagnostics Enhance combined polysomnography and video telemetry (poly/VTM) studies at CHOC Orange and CHOC Mission. Contribute to research initiatives utilizing these advanced studies. Hypersomnolence Program Expansion Enhance the quality assurance program for pediatric patients with narcolepsy. Improve care pathways and follow-up protocols for this population. Sleep Study Interpretation Interpret sleep studies conducted at the CHOC Sleep Lab. Provide timely and high-quality interpretations—within 7 days for routine studies and within 1 day for urgent or highly abnormal studies. Maintain clear communication with families and referring physicians (both primary and subspecialty care). Serve as a sleep medicine resource for CHOC and community physicians. Clinical Care/Outpatient Conduct five pediatric sleep clinics per week. Ability to conduct two evening or weekend clinics per month. Rotate between CHOC Orange, CHOC Mission, and offsite clinics as assigned. Teaching and Leadership Lead quality assurance efforts for sleep technicians and engage in performance improvement initiatives. Autism Sleep Program Development Lead the expansion of a comprehensive Autism Sleep Program in collaboration with CHOC’s Autism Center. Participate in in-person and telehealth multidisciplinary clinics with neurodevelopmental physicians. Collaborate on autism-related sleep clinical research trials. Deliver lectures and presentations to UCI medical students, CHOC pediatric residents and pediatric neurology fellows, and UCLA sleep fellows during their pediatric rotation. Provide educational sessions to regional hospitals, including but not limited to: Mission, Hoag, Westmed, St. Jude, Whittier Presbyterian, Pomona Valley, Fountain Valley, and Corona. Attend one major national sleep conference annually (covered under CME benefits). Improve and update clinical sleep questionnaires used in screening and evaluation. Research and Academic Initiatives Build infrastructure for pediatric sleep research, including IRB processes, grant applications, and study coordination. Engage with pharmaceutical companies seeking FDA approval for pediatric sleep medications. Apply for and maintain a UCI clinical faculty appointment. Publish peer-reviewed articles and engage in outcomes-based research initiatives. Community Outreach and Marketing Serve as a recognized thought leader in the community through grand rounds, lunch lectures, and educational talks. Partner with CHOC Marketing to promote awareness and access to the Neuro Sleep Program. Elevate the visibility of CHOC’s sleep services across Orange County and beyond.
