Vanderbilt University Medical CenterNashville, TN

About The Position

Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt (Monroe Carell) Post-Graduate Year Two (PGY2) Pediatric Pharmacy Residency program is a 12-month, full-time residency, accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available. The mission of the PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy residency is to transition PGY1 residency graduates from generalist practice to specialized practice that meets the needs of pediatric patients. The resident will be involved with active inpatient services which includes multiple levels of critical care and acute care. If desired, Monroe Carell PGY2 residents will be able to focus in a particular area of pediatrics (e.g. critical care pediatric specialty practice designation, ID, heme/onc, etc). Graduates are well equipped to be fully integrated members of the interdisciplinary pediatric care team and able to make complex pharmacotherapy recommendations. In addition, graduates are experienced in short-term research in pediatric pharmacotherapy, excel in their ability to teach other health professionals, and possess the experience necessary to exercise leadership for pediatric practice in the health system. Our residency program will provide each resident with specific learning experiences designed to enable the resident to expand the scope of his/her practice skills. The resident will be evaluated on ASHP goals/objectives as assigned on various learning experiences (rotations, longitudinal experiences, presentations, etc.) throughout the year. The ASHP Residency Learning System and PharmAcademic is used extensively, which offers the resident a tailored, personalized, and progressive learning experience throughout the year. This residency will tentatively begin on July 6, 2026, with one residency position available. PGY2 specialty residencies require the successful completion of a PGY1 residency year and pharmacy licensure in the state of Tennessee. VUMC pharmacy residency positions beginning in 2026 for postgraduate year one (PGY1) or postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency programs are offered to applicants through the ASHP Resident Matching Program (the "Match"). The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) is responsible for establishing the Rules of the Match, and for monitoring the implementation of the Match. The administration and conduct of the Match are carried out by National Matching Services Inc. on behalf of ASHP.
