About The Position

The Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Pediatric Palliative Care at Emory University in Atlanta in conjunction with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is seeking to hire a Pediatric Palliative Care Physician. The Pediatric Palliative Care Program is an interdisciplinary program that engages in clinical care, research, community outreach, education, and oversight of institutional policy relevant to pediatric palliative care. While palliative care alone cannot bridge the gaps in care that exist for patients with serious and life-threatening conditions, we share our knowledge with providers beyond our institution to help improve the care of children and families throughout the southeast region, nationally, and internationally. Program components include: Inpatient and telehealth pediatric palliative care services A Fellowship program in partnership with The Emory Palliative Care Center Clinical research initiatives A growing bereavement program Collaboration with oncology-based outpatient palliative care services and community hospice programs Educational and advocacy partnerships with local and national organizations

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy
  • Board certification or eligibility in Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Care
  • Completed a fellowship in Pediatric Palliative Care and Hospice Medicine
  • Current Georgia medical license or eligible for Georgia medical license
  • Current DEA registration
  • BLS certification is required
  • PALS or NRP certification
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent knowledge base, communication, organization, interpersonal, leadership, and teaching skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide palliative and related medical care within the Emory + Children’s Pediatric Institute’s affiliated institutions and practice areas which complies with the Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations and the Pediatric Institute’s policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a palliative care resource for peers, patient/family and staff education.
  • Complete necessary documentation and ensure communication to facilitate patient care and appropriate reimbursement.
  • Participate in and incorporate Quality Improvement and research findings into practice.
  • Participate in meetings and activities as required to support operations of the clinical area.
  • Participate in activities that enhance professional development, complete and maintain certification in BLS, PALS, or NALS and maintain any additional specialty training/certifications as required by the area assigned.
  • Participate in the palliative care training and education of fellows, residents, medical students, and other trainees when applicable. Participate in academic initiatives related to one’s own palliative care interests and career development including curriculum development/training, research, advocacy, and/or program development.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required.
  • Working collaboratively with the division chief, appointed team members, and the Emory Palliative Care Center on trainee educational initiatives
  • Participation in scholarly endeavors relevant to the intersection of palliative care and other special interests that can be reasonably supported with time and resources currently available
  • Participation in service activities within the division, the Department of Pediatrics, and/or the Emory Palliative Care Center
  • Night and weekend coverage are required.
  • Attendance and participation in program and clinical team meetings is required.
  • Participation in team initiatives, including but not limited to the following: Team building and other related initiatives to promote team development
