JOB SUMMARY: The Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is a Board-Certified advanced practitioner who is trained to provide care, coordination, and management of the pediatric orthopedic patient in the outpatient, peri-operative, and intra-operative settings. The NP/PA will work in collaboration with the orthopedic surgeon to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients in the ambulatory setting and to provide support in the surgical setting. The NP/PA will practice both autonomously and in concert with other medical professionals to screen and optimize the care for patients who are seeking both surgical and non-surgical orthopedic care. The NP/PA will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to manage conditions ranging in complexity. The NP/PA will provide intraoperative support as needed, including OR protocol adherence and managing patients in the peri-operative setting. The NP/PA will have prescriptive privileges for both medicinal and therapeutic age-related modalities. The NP/PA will also serve as a resource, mentor, and educator for the pediatric patient, their family and other healthcare members. The NP/PA may also be expected to participate in departmental development or research activities conducted in collaboration with other pediatric health care team members. Requirements

  • Obtains/Maintains NP licenses in New York
  • PNP Required, FNP may be considered with demonstrated pediatric experience
  • Obtains/Maintains board certification as a NP in specialty area of practice
  • BLS, PALS, ACLS via American Heart Association
  • DEA certification
  • RNFA certification, not required
  • Obtains/Maintains PA license in New York
  • Obtains/Maintains current NCCPA certification
  • BLS, PALS, ACLS via American Heart Association
  • DEA certification

  • Orders and interprets laboratory and imaging studies appropriately and consults with MDs as necessary.
  • Complies with policies and procedures concerning infection control and safety in order to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and staff while complying with their Annual Health Assessment requirement.
  • Initiates and maintains open, direct and effective written and verbal communication with colleagues/medical staff and all members of the department as applicable.
  • Responds to emails and pages as soon as possible in a professional manner with compassion and understanding.
  • Introduces and identifies oneself to patient prior to patient interaction.
  • Verifies each patient encounter correctly by consistent use of the patient identifiers and utilizes interpreter / language services when appropriate and necessary.
  • Adjusts to changing situations and triages work assignments.
  • Demonstrates urgency and manages time to meet patient/department/hospital needs as applicable.
  • Follows department policies and procedures and adheres to HIPPA protocols and procedures related to privacy and safety.

  • Takes directives from PA Management in an appropriate manner.
