Organization: MCJCHV Rx Services Job Summary: Leads a team of staff members during a daily shift and actively participates in overall management of the department, with focus on assigned clinical area. Leads development of clinical practice standards and protocols, and provision of patient-focused delivery of care and services with accountabilities for implementation and outcomes for people leadership, quality, service, compliance, and finance. Ensures the department's optimal performance within their assigned clinical area and team of direct reports by engaging in effective problem solving within clinical area and other departments as appropriate, assuring performance standards for patient care are met, and developing/leading the assigned team. Remains in clinical practice with a portion of time dedicated to serving as daily shift resource to others. . Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt is hiring a Pediatric Inpatient Pharmacist Coordinator! Position Highlights Lead and coordinate the training program for pharmacy technicians and pharmacists, ensuring consistent onboarding and skill development. Provide hands-on training to staff within sterile and non-sterile compounding, hazardous compounding, and workflow processes. Maintain and track all training compliance documentation, ensuring readiness for audits and regulatory requirements. Develop and update clear, step-by-step workflow documents to support accuracy, safety, and standardization across the department. Supervise and support a small team of direct reports, helping guide performance and professional growth. Staff as a pediatric pharmacist or a trainer for at least 70% of the time, maintaining a close connection to the frontline workflow and staying current on departmental processes and implementations. Celebrate staff achievements and milestones to cultivate a culture of appreciation and growth, while actively reinforcing teamwork, cohesion, and CREDO-aligned behavior. Schedule is (4) 10-hour shifts (days or evenings, depending on training needs), working every 4th weekend and serving as Manager On-Call during those weekends.

Requirements

  • Pharmaceutical Drug Preparation & Dispensing (Intermediate): Demonstrates proficiency in drug preparation and dispensing including practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to review, prepare and dispense prescribed medications. This includes being proficient in the general principles of aseptic technique utilized to compound sterile preparations (CSPs) to minimize the risk of contamination. (where applicable) Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
  • Compliance (Novice): Can explain and apply basic statutory instructions in normal situations on the job. Understands the principles upon which the rules and regulations are based. Appropriately escalates problems relating to rules and regulations in timely and effective manner.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the activities of assigned support personnel and verifying the accuracy and appropriateness of all medications prepared by support personnel prior to dispensing to patients or dispensing to healthcare providers for administration to patients.
  • Supports leadership team in development of staff members by providing substantive feedback.
  • Demonstrates clinical/technical knowledge needed to coach staff on day-to-day activities.
  • Implements pharmacy specific policies and practice guidelines in accordance with VUMC policy and regulatory standards using standardized tools and instruments.
  • Engages with other departments and vendors as appropriate
