About The Position

This Pediatric Implantable Device Specialist serves to focus exclusively on pediatric cardiac implantable devices within the Primary Children’s Heart Center. This role provides clinical, educational, research and administrative support for the Pediatric Implantable device program including assistance with patient and family education, interdisciplinary coordination and collaboration, and data management. Because this role combines a unique mix of skills, we will partner with the successful candidate to build and strengthen their capabilities through education and hands-on learning.   • Experience in cardiology or with implantable device technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • IBHRE (International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners) certification.
  • 3+ years of experience with the pediatric cardiac implantable device management.
  • Experience with device interrogation software.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with patients/parents in clinic during routine follow-up clinic visits as well as in emergent situations; also with patient/parent before and after implant procedures.
  • Review findings of device interrogations with provider to ensure that patient devices are programmed and functioning at optimal levels and that all patient/parent questions are answered prior to discharge.
  • Ensures each device patient is properly set up with remote transmission capability for monitoring purposes between clinic visits.
  • Compiles device data acquired from the transmission of a patient’s remote monitor to an Internet housed database.
  • Review with provider to ensure patient device is programmed and functioning at optimal levels
  • Respond to phone calls from patients, parents, physicians, and vendors.
  • Serve as a liaison between vendors and physicians and be available during procedures to answer questions from these groups.
  • Work with physician to optimize device settings based on EKG / Monitor / Device findings.
  • Partner with physicians to screen for device complications.
  • Reprogram device as indicated.
  • Commitment to continuing education in implantable device procedures and processes offered by vendors.
  • Maintain device databases.
  • Update past/present device and lead information, patient demographics, diagnosis, implanting physician and other pertinent information.
  • Generate and screen device reports and provide information to physicians.
  • Schedule remote device checks that are completed and transmitted remotely.
  • Patient/parent needs.
  • Patient/parent education regarding devices, coordinate device implants, enroll patients in remote monitoring, field calls for device related issues from patients, parents, device companies, outside nurses, physician, and dentists inquiring about patient devices.
  • Coordination with Industry vendors to provide assistance to physician needs during implantation of devices.
  • Based on data received from testing, assist physician to program device at optimal settings prior to discharge.
  • Clinic coordination.
  • Maintains pacemaker-related equipment by scheduling service times with programmers, and orders supplies.
  • Maintain 'advisory and recalled' database from device companies.
  • Assist with Outreach Pacemaker Clinics.
  • Educate fellows, NP/PAs, and other staff on the utility of implantable devices, the intricacies of the interrogated device data, and the role these devices play in the management of arrhythmia patients.
  • Research activities.
  • Coordinate EP-related studies and research projects including consents from patients/parents, education on procedures for studies, and fielding phone calls.
  • Work with Principal Investigator (PI) to collect data for EP-related studies.
  • Collect data and prepare reports for monthly QA and other department meetings.
