Requirements

  • PNP-AC
  • Current Iowa License to practice as a Registered Nurse and as an ARNP
  • Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • NRP & PALS
  • Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of experience as a nurse in pediatrics preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides routine care and management of hospitalized patients in the newborn nursery (level 1 and 2) at Methodist West and Trinity Fort Dodge, as well as inpatient pediatric coverage in both Des Moines and Trinity
  • This position is a 1.0 FTE, requiring a 1840 hours per year, with a rotating schedule that includes a mix of day and night shifts. Specific locations depend on operational needs
  • Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary
  • Documents findings in accurate, systematic form and maintains appropriate documentation in the EMR
  • Utilizes data to identify areas of improvement, monitor progress, and design/implement initiatives which can make a positive impact on the care of newborn or inpatient pediatric patients
  • Accepts responsibility to maintain and developing own skill and knowledge in the clinical area of expertise - pediatrics and newborn care
  • Provides specialty specific patient-family teaching and counseling based on needs, and in collaboration with the care team
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff, and members of the community from diverse backgrounds
