About The Position

Seattle Children’s is seeking a dedicated Pediatric Dentist to provide comprehensive oral health care to a diverse population of infants, children, and adolescents, specifically those with complex medical conditions, developmental delays, or behavioral challenges. This role operates within the Seattle Children’s Dental Clinic, Emergency Department, Inpatient areas, and the Operating Rooms, ensuring high-quality surgical and preventative care for patients who cannot be safely treated in a traditional dental setting. In addition to clinical practice, this position serves as an Affiliate Faculty member at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, providing clinical training and education to pediatric dentistry residents. Seattle Children’s Dental Clinic is a leader in managing dental care for children with special healthcare needs. We specialize in patients up to age 16 who have been referred to for conditions such as intractable epilepsy, hematologic disorders, neuromuscular disorders, craniofacial conditions, and severe behavioral problems. Oral health is essential for overall health; many of our patients must be infection-free to undergo life-saving medical treatments like bone marrow transplants or cardiac surgery. We serve as the primary dental home for children who cannot receive primary dental care in community clinic settings and provide 24/7 emergency consultations for dental trauma and infections. Requirements

  • DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine).
  • Advanced training in a pediatric dentistry program accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on - Advanced Dental Education in Pediatric Dentistry.
  • Board Certification in Pediatric Dentistry.
  • Previous experience in hospital Pediatric Dentistry.
  • Experience with medically compromised and developmentally delayed pediatric patients.
  • Licensed Dentist in the State of Washington.
  • Prior to start of employment, must obtain, and maintain in good standing, Seattle Children’s Hospital medical or allied health professional staff privileges that are not limited, revoked, suspended, conditioned, or probationary, except for normal probationary periods due to initial appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth and gums for high-acuity patients.
  • Diagnose and manage within the scope of training diseases of the nerve and pulp and gum/bone disease.
  • Provide comprehensive dental rehabilitation under general anesthesia within the hospital Operating Room (OR).
  • Evaluate tooth and jaw development, monitor growth patterns, and plan, deliver, and adjust dental appliances as needed.
  • Partner with specialists in Anesthesiology, Oncology, Cardiology, Craniofacial medicine, Emergency medicine and other medical and surgical subspecialties provide integrated care.
  • Act as a clinical instructor for University of Washington Pediatric Dentistry residents during their hospital rotations.
  • Provide hands-on training and formal education to ensure residents meet clinical milestones and CODA requirements.
  • Contribute to clinical research projects aimed at improving oral health outcomes for children with complex medical needs.
