About The Position

There’s no place like Hope. Job Summary: The Physical Education Aide assists in the adaptive gross and fine motor skill development and the aquatic training of The Hope School students. The Physical Education Aide provides direction and supervision to teachers’ aides present during pool and gym periods.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Valid State or NCLB Paraprofessional Certificate
Must be capable of effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must be current in Lifeguard Certification or capable of completing training for it.
Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and meet all DCFS driving requirements.
Ability to physically move within the school, and through the campus and community.
Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs., stand, sit, walk, grasp, reach, stoop, crouch and crawl.

Nice To Haves

An associate or bachelor’s degree in an education or human services related field.
Experience in working with persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
Previous supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

Assists in the implementation of gross and fine motor skills programs for all students.
Assists with curriculum development and preparation of activities and materials for physical education.
Works collaboratively with Educational Specialists to ensure that all students are involved in structured activities that support progress in IEP physical education goals.
Documents student progress in the form of whole task or task analysis data and progress notes as specified on the IEP goal(s).
Assists with completion of quarterly progress reports on physical education goals for assigned students.
Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the pool area, locker room, and gym, as well as, appropriate care and maintenance of equipment.
Inventories, orders, maintains, and distributes swimsuits, swim pants, towels and laundry used in the Physical Education Department.
Models appropriate behavior to students (manner of speech, appropriate clothes for job, etc.)
Assumes responsibilities for assuring compliance of student rights and program delivery as defined in the Illinois Department of Mental Health Code and the Confidentiality Act, as well as the Child Care Act of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
