About The Position

Inspects and services new and used vehicles when they are delivered to the dealer and makes repairs or adjustments to ensure the salable condition of the vehicles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, service advisors, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Manufacturer Training

Responsibilities

  • Inspects vehicles for obvious damage and missing major components.
  • Inspects vehicles for loose or misaligned items such as trim, doors, and hardware.
  • Records discrepancies and signs or otherwise acknowledges an acceptance slip for each vehicle delivered.
  • Performs repairs and replaces defective items with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Ensures the warranty repairs are properly documented and charged.
  • Starts engine and drives the vehicle to test steering, brakes, transmission, and engine operation.
  • Activates power equipment such as electric windows, seats, radio, horn, lights, and directional signals to ensure specified operating standards.
  • Inspects surfaces to detect minor chips and scratches in paint. Touches up imperfections using brush applicator and factory-supplied matching paint.
  • Installs optional equipment specified by the customer or dealer.
  • Installs standard components.
  • Pours antifreeze into radiator according to seasonal requirements.
  • Tunes engine, using technicians' tools and test equipment.
  • Installs or repairs major mechanical, hydraulic, or electromechanical equipment such as radios, air conditioners, power steering units, and power brakes using hand tools.
  • Washes and polishes exterior of vehicles.
  • Cleans and vacuums interior of vehicles.
  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
  • Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Keeps shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
