About The Position

The Faculty of Engineering is seeking an experienced and highly motivated PC2 Laboratory Operations and Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Manager to oversee and lead the operational and safety functions of our Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) laboratory facilities. PC2 labs are designed for work with moderate-risk biological materials that require controlled access, specialised safety equipment, and strict protocols to protect staff, students, and the environment. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will deliver expert operational support while driving change and shaping the Faculty’s HSW culture and strategy, including supporting the needs of Companies on Campus as required. In this role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across a range of programs, including: Planning, managing, and delivering high-quality laboratory operations and HSW programs. Developing and implementing protocols, procedures, and testing frameworks. Providing expert advice, guidance, and training to staff, students, and industry partners. Leading projects, managing resources, reporting, and supporting business development initiatives. Chairing or contributing to the Faculty PC2 Labs Steering Committee and HSW Committee to ensure professional and high-level service delivery. Requirements

  • Excellent management skills with proven ability to strategically manage and provide authoritative specialist and technical advice including laboratory compliance
  • Thorough knowledge and practical understanding of current HSW legislation and statutory requirements in a research/laboratory-based environment and the ability to provide strategic advice to senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to manage risk and respond to acute events across a complex laboratory based environment
  • Experience in the higher education and/or medical research sector, with an understanding of legislation, policies and procedures relating to safety, facilities, services and asset management
  • Relevant technical expertise and demonstrated experience in cell biology, specifically mammalian cell culture and microscopy. Proven ability to operate and educate clients in the full range of techniques and associated instrumentation across best practice cell culture, imaging and analysis workflows.
