About The Position

NACCO Natural Resources is a leading provider of natural resource management, aggregates, and environmental services supporting energy and infrastructure development across North America. We have an immediate opening at our office in Plano, Texas for an experienced payroll supervisor. The payroll supervisor is responsible for coordinating day-to-day payroll operations, supporting payroll staff and ensuring accurate, timely processing of employee compensation for approximately 1,700 employees while maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of payroll processing, including earnings, deductions, gross-to-net calculations and payroll taxation basics.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state payroll laws and wage and hour regulations.
  • Experience with payroll and timekeeping systems such as Workday, JD Edwards, Workforce Software or similar systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis functions such as VLOOKUPs and PivotTables.
  • Ability to identify payroll discrepancies, research payroll issues and implement solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple payroll tasks and deadlines while maintaining high accuracy and working independently in a team-oriented payroll environment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate payroll information and respond to employee inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Minimum of five-to-seven years of full-cycle, multistate payroll processing and at least three years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with Workday.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, human resources or finance preferred; equivalent work experience accepted.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with certified payroll or Davis-Bacon reporting is a plus.
  • FPC or CPP certification is preferred.
  • Employees who do not currently hold certification are expected to obtain certification within a reasonable timeframe after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and processing of payroll cycles (weekly, biweekly and semimonthly), including reviewing time records, validating pay data and ensuring accurate wage calculations.
  • Review payroll registers, reports and supporting documentation to identify discrepancies in pay rates, deductions, taxes and time records prior to transmission.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries and timekeeping issues related to payroll processing.
  • Support payroll compliance by ensuring payroll activities follow applicable federal, state and local wage and hour laws, including FLSA and overtime regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable payroll resource for payroll staff and assist with resolving system and payroll processing questions.
  • Generate routine payroll reports such as labor distribution, overtime usage and payroll summaries for internal operational needs.
  • Support the preparation and validation of certified payroll reporting for federal or Davis-Bacon projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, data accuracy and system efficiency.
