About The Position

The Payroll Supervisor reports directly to the Payroll Manager and oversees the daily operations of the payroll department, providing leadership and guidance to a team of three payroll staff members. This role is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing across multiple jurisdictions, maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations, supporting payroll tax and audit functions, and driving continual process improvements. The Payroll Supervisor serves as a subject matter expert on payroll systems, payroll tax compliance, and complex payroll processing while collaborating with HR, Finance, and operational managers across the organization.

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi‑state payroll.
  • 1–3+ years of supervisory or lead experience managing payroll or finance staff.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Dayforce, ADP, Workday, UKG, Oracle, or similar.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate professionally with employees at all levels.

Nice To Haves

  • CPP or FPC certification, preferred
  • Experience with prevailing wage reporting and ESOP/401(k) administration, preferred
  • Knowledge of multi‑entity or multi‑branch payroll environments, preferred
  • Strong Excel skills and GL or financial reporting experience, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and support a team of three payroll specialists, ensuring payrolls are completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with all regulations.
  • Review and approve payroll entries, adjustments, garnishments, special payments, and off‑cycle payrolls.
  • Oversee manager payroll submissions to ensure timely commit and resolution of outstanding items.
  • Administer incentive payrolls and assist with commission payroll processing as needed.
  • Perform PTO calculations, adjustments, and corrections in accordance with company policy.
  • Manage new tax jurisdiction registrations and ensure compliance with multi‑state payroll requirements
  • Complete payroll‑cycle 401(k) audit reviews, support ESOP audit requirements, and manage ongoing 401(k)/ESOP contribution accuracy, maintenance, and reconciliation.
  • Oversee prevailing wage compliance, including reviewing job classifications, rates, fringes, and required documentation for accuracy.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and employee experience.
