About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to oversee weekly payroll operations for our Walters Field Services U.S division, supporting multiple active construction projects. This role requires expertise in union payroll, labor compliance, and job cost accounting in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and a collaborative team player. Reporting to the Controller, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for but not limited to:

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of payroll experience, preferably in construction or steel erection.
  • Strong experience with union payroll and benefit administration.
  • Proven knowledge of federal and state employment tax compliance.
  • Experience processing certified payroll / prevailing wage jobs.
  • Experience handling garnishments and child support orders.
  • Hands-on experience with ADP payroll systems.
  • Experience with construction ERP/job cost systems such as Viewpoint Vista or Sage 300.
  • Experience using certified payroll systems such as LCPtracker or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of job costing and labor allocation.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Multi-state payroll experience.
  • Experience with union audits and reporting portals.
  • Familiarity with GC/owner compliance systems and workflows.
  • Experience in a fast-paced construction or subcontracting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll for union and non-union employees, ensuring accuracy in wages, overtime, deductions, and fringe benefits.
  • Interpret and apply union collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), including pay rules, classifications, and benefit requirements.
  • Calculate, reconcile, and remit monthly union benefit payments (health, pension, annuity, etc.) in accordance with union rules.
  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports in compliance with prevailing wage requirements (federal, state, and local).
  • Utilize platforms such as LCPtracker and similar GC/owner systems for labor compliance reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and multi-state employment tax regulations, including payroll tax filings and reporting.
  • Manage payroll-related compliance with garnishments and wage attachments, including child support orders, ensuring timely and accurate withholding and remittance (in coordination with ADP).
  • Allocate payroll costs accurately to jobs, phases, and cost codes within ERP/job cost systems.
  • Reconcile payroll, general ledger, and benefit liabilities on a regular basis.
  • Support and participate in payroll, union, workers’ compensation, and external audits, ensuring documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure audit readiness at all times.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly.
