About The Position

The Payroll Manager is a key member of the W.C. Bradley Shared Services team and is responsible for leading payroll operations for all U.S. and Canadian business units. This role establishes and maintains payroll policies, processes, and internal controls that ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions across North America. The Payroll Manager works closely with the Total Rewards Manager, HRIS Analyst, and Shared Services Administrators and HR Business Partners to ensure accurate data flow, system integrity, and alignment across payroll, benefits, compensation, and HRIS processes. In addition to direct operational ownership of U.S. and Canadian payrolls, the Payroll Manager provides dotted‑line oversight, guidance, and collaboration with payroll activities in Europe and Asia. Payroll processing in those regions is completed by local HR teams; this role ensures alignment with global standards, supports issue resolution, and partners on compliance, reporting, and system considerations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent accounting experience.
  • Five to seven years of payroll administration and processing experience, including at least two years with ADP payroll systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Proficiency in business math and basic accounting principles.
  • U.S. and Canadian payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Payroll systems and interfaces (e.g., ADP), including configuration and data flow.
  • Payroll‑related accounting principles, including GL mapping and reconciliation.
  • Benefits‑related payroll impacts and HRIS data structures.
  • General awareness of global payroll practices and regional variations.
  • Proficiency in payroll systems and HRIS platforms, with strong Excel capability.
  • Accurate data entry, auditing, and reconciliation skills.
  • Ability to analyze payroll issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
  • Strong communication skills for cross‑functional coordination.
  • Effective vendor management and ability to support system updates or enhancements.
  • Interpret and apply payroll regulations, policies, and internal controls.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Collaborate effectively with Total Rewards, HRIS, Shared Services Admins, Accounting, and global HR partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day‑to‑day payroll operations for all U.S. and Canadian business units, including oversight of payroll calendars, vendor performance, and processing accuracy.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve payroll policies, practices, and procedures for North America.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Oversee accurate and timely payroll tax payments and filings across all U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Lead internal, external, and employment tax audits; ensure adherence to organizational procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure timely distribution of W‑2s, T4s, and other required payroll documents.
  • Serve as primary contact for payroll service providers; oversee system configuration, upgrades, maintenance, and enhancements (e.g., ADP).
  • Partner with the HRIS Analyst to maintain payroll‑related system configuration, interfaces, and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with the Total Rewards Manager on taxable benefits, compensation‑related payroll inputs, and year‑end reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with Shared Services Administrators to ensure accurate and timely payroll inputs, onboarding/offboarding data, and corrections.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies; direct corrective actions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide guidance and problem‑solving support to business unit HR teams on payroll administration and processing.
  • Manage payroll file maintenance within HRIS/PR systems for all corporate‑processed employees.
  • Prepare calculations and documentation for manual payroll payments across business units.
  • Maintain strong alignment between Payroll, Accounting, Benefits, and HRIS to ensure efficient and accurate payroll processes.
  • Establish regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Provide Accounting and Finance with general ledger information required for payroll‑related accounting.
  • Process check requests, fund transfers, and journal entry information; verify and balance payroll accounts each pay period.
  • Administer the vacation purchase plan in compliance with cafeteria plan regulations.
  • Coordinate with the workers’ compensation carrier during annual audits.
  • Support Benefits with annual enrollment data processing as it relates to payroll.
  • Coordinate completion of government census reports for all business units.
  • Perform other payroll‑related duties as assigned or apparent.
  • Provide dotted‑line oversight, guidance, and subject‑matter expertise to regional HR teams responsible for payroll processing in Europe and Asia.
  • Ensure global payroll practices align with Shared Services standards for accuracy, documentation, compliance, and internal controls.
  • Partner with regional HR to support issue resolution, system questions, and interpretation of global payroll policies.
  • Collaborate on global reporting needs, including compensation‑related data for regulatory filings, audits, and corporate reporting.
  • Participate in global payroll process reviews, recommending improvements and ensuring consistency where feasible.
  • Maintain awareness of regional payroll system changes, regulatory updates, and process impacts; communicate relevant considerations to Shared Services leadership.
