About The Position

AKIVA is seeking a skilled Payroll Coordinator for a temporary assignment supporting a public sector client in New York’s Capital District. You will assist with payroll processing, timekeeping administration, and compliance reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented payroll professional who values accuracy and confidentiality. Requirements

  • 2–3 years of payroll processing experience
  • Knowledge of federal and NYS payroll tax regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll/HRIS systems
  • Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must pass background check and drug screening
  • Valid work authorization required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ADP, Ceridian, Paychex, or similar payroll platforms
  • FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP designation
  • Public sector or government payroll experience
  • Knowledge of NYS labor laws and reporting requirements

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll as directed
  • Maintain and audit employee timekeeping records for accuracy
  • Calculate wages, overtime, deductions, and tax withholdings
  • Prepare payroll reports, summaries, and reconciliation documents
  • Assist with benefits administration and enrollment processing
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and time-off balances
  • Use AI-powered tools to automate data validation, flag discrepancies, and generate payroll analytics
