About The Position

We’re partnering with a growing, people-first organization to hire a Payroll Clerk who brings strong payroll fundamentals, a positive attitude, and a service-oriented mindset. This is a 2‑month contract with strong potential to convert to full-time as the company builds out a long-term payroll resource within HR. Why You’ll Love This Role High-visibility payroll role fully embedded within HR Supportive environment with hands-on training in company-specific processes Stable biweekly payroll cadence (two cycles = payroll processed weekly) Opportunity to convert to a permanent position Collaborative HR team (6–7 people) that values approachability and teamwork What You’ll Do As the Payroll Clerk, you’ll support accurate and timely payroll processing for approximately 700 employees across 17 locations, while partnering closely with HR and the Payroll Specialist.

Requirements

  • 2–5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience (minimum 200 employees processed)
  • Strong working knowledge of California payroll
  • Experience processing biweekly payroll
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with Excel (pivot tables and lookups preferred; flexibility for strong processors)
  • Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Approachable, professional, and personable communication style

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-state payroll experience
  • Experience supporting payroll within an HR function
  • Payroll software experience — Paycom highly preferred, but open to ADP, UKG, Paychex, QuickBooks, or similar systems
  • Willingness to learn and be trained on company-specific processes (this team values adaptability over “overqualification”)

Responsibilities

  • Review and audit timesheets and attendance records to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Calculate payroll adjustments including overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions (with guidance)
  • Prepare commission calculations for review prior to payroll upload
  • Assist with payroll processing for hourly, salaried, and commission-based employees
  • Support payroll reporting, reconciliations, and discrepancy resolution
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and care
  • Coordinate separation documentation and requests with internal divisions
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W‑2 processing and employee inquiries
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and security of payroll and employee data
  • Serve as backup payroll processor as needed
