Stein Sperling is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Coordinator to support and collaborate with our Human Resources department in the administration of payroll, employee benefits, and HR operations. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional to take ownership of critical administrative functions while serving as a key resource for employees. The Payroll & Benefits Coordinator works in concert with Senior level HR and Accounting employees in the comprehensive administration of the firm's payroll and employee benefits functions. In the area of payroll administration, the coordinator assists with processing payroll end-to-end for firm employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness; tracks payroll data, including hours worked, leave balances, and deductions; investigates and resolves payroll discrepancies in coordination with Accounting, and maintains payroll records. With respect to benefits administration, the Coordinator guides new hires through benefits onboarding and enrollment processes and manages annual open enrollment, including employee communications and system updates. The Coordinator processes qualifying life events and updates benefits elections accordingly, administers FSA and HSA enrollments, and coordinates with third-party vendors. Additional benefits responsibilities include supporting 401(k) plan enrollments, changes, and participant inquiries; coordinating benefits file feeds to ensure accurate data transmission to carriers and other employee benefit plans as needed. The Coordinator also provides broader HR operational support by serving as a primary point of contact for employee benefits inquiries, collaborating with HR, Accounting, and firm leadership on administrative projects, maintaining confidential employee records and documentation, and supporting additional HR and administrative initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in end-to-end payroll administration, including payroll processing, payroll tracking, and resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Experience with employee benefits administration, including open enrollment, qualifying life events, benefits file feeds, and enrollments for programs such as FSA, HSA, 401(k), and Life Insurance, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with Paycom HRIS/payroll system (candidates with experience using other HRIS/payroll platforms will be considered)
  • Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment
