About The Position

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for producing accurate, timely weekly payroll for union and confidential employees while maintaining compliance with union agreements, tax regulations, and company policies. This position plays a key role in payroll reporting, union benefits administration, payroll tax filings, certified payroll, and reconciliation of payroll-related general ledger accounts. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, patient, and comfortable working with imperfect or incomplete data. Success in this role requires proactive validation of union rates, benefits, and deductions to ensure accurate payroll processing and audit-ready documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly union and confidential payroll accurately and on time
  • Ensure compliance with union contracts, wage determinations, and company policies
  • Administer union benefits, including health & welfare contributions and reporting
  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports
  • Manage payroll tax filings and W‑2 preparation
  • Upload and reconcile 401(k) contributions, including annual reporting
  • Reconcile payroll and benefit-related liability accounts to the general ledger
  • Coordinate and support union and payroll audits
  • Reconcile benefit invoices and investigate discrepancies
  • Work cross-functionally with HR and Accounting to resolve payroll and benefits issues
