About The Position

Based in the Washington, D.C. Metro area, Pivot Path Solutions, LLC , is a government contracting and business solutions firm that offers enterprise IT solutions, strategic and acquisition planning, organizational development, and medical research and analytics services to help customers adapt and thrive in changing market conditions. Pivot Path is seeking a highly detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to own payroll execution, labor compliance, and Unanet system administration within a government contracting environment. This role is essential to ensuring accurate labor charging, DCAA-compliant timekeeping, and reliable payroll operations across multiple contracts and states. This is a remote position.

Requirements

  • 3–7+ years of experience in payroll, accounting, or finance (GovCon strongly preferred)
  • Hands-on Unanet administration experience (required)
  • Strong understanding of GovCon labor charging and payroll compliance
  • Experience processing multi-state payroll
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort with financial and labor reporting
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational discipline
  • Ability to operate independently in a small-business GovCon environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting DCAA audits or incurred cost submissions
  • Familiarity with FAR, CAS, and indirect rate structures
  • Experience working with external CPAs and payroll providers
  • Accounting degree or relevant certification (CPA not required)

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll accurately and on time, including multi-state payroll
  • Ensure payroll aligns with Unanet timekeeping, labor categories, and contract charge codes
  • Manage payroll deductions, benefits coordination, garnishments, and reimbursements
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Support employee onboarding and offboarding from a payroll and labor-charging perspective
  • Coordinate payroll tax filings and work with payroll providers and external advisors
  • Respond to payroll inquiries with discretion, accuracy, and professionalism
  • Serve as the primary Unanet system administrator across Projects, People, Time, Expenses, and Financials
  • Configure and maintain projects, CLINs, task structures, charge codes, labor categories, and cost elements
  • Ensure accurate and compliant timekeeping aligned with DCAA and contract requirements
  • Maintain indirect rate structures (Fringe, Overhead, G&A) and cost pools
  • Monitor labor charging for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
  • Generate standard and ad-hoc Unanet reports for payroll, billing, leadership, and audits
  • Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate with Unanet support as needed
  • Support Unanet data integrity for audits, invoicing, and financial reporting
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks, including transaction posting, account reconciliations, and expense review
  • Record payroll-related entries and assist with month-end close
  • Support labor cost allocations, indirect rates, and labor-related billing
  • Ensure proper separation of direct and indirect labor costs
  • Prepare payroll and labor documentation for audits, CPAs, and government reviews
  • Maintain audit-ready records and internal controls
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll, Unanet, and labor compliance processes
