Newtek Bank, N.A. is looking to add a Payment Operations Specialist II to its team. (Please see below for schedule information) We're looking for a detail-oriented Payment Operations Specialist II to support and manage debit card processing in a fast-growing digital bank. This role sits at the heart of our card operations, ensuring smooth day-to-day processing, issue resolution, and compliance across the debit card lifecycle-from transaction settlement to dispute handling and network coordination. You'll work closely with card networks, processors, internal teams, and external partners to ensure our cardholders have a seamless and reliable debit card experience. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise in payment processing, exceptional problem-solving capabilities, and a meticulous approach to compliance and risk management.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in card operations
  • 2+ years of experience in payment operations, or banking operations
  • Hands-on experience with debit card processing and transaction flows
  • Familiarity with card networks (Visa and MoneyPass) and card dispute processes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple operational tasks simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work various shift schedules (M-F)
  • Process-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage daily debit card transaction processing, settlements, and reconciliations
  • Ensure accurate posting of debit card transactions across internal systems
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve transaction exceptions, declines, and processing errors
  • Support card lifecycle activities, including issuance and activation monitoring, reissues, replacements, and closures
  • Handle debit card disputes and chargebacks in line with card network rules
  • Coordinate evidence collection, representation, and tracking of dispute outcomes
  • Monitor dispute timelines, recovery rates, and compliance with SLA requirements
  • Ensure debit card operations comply with network regulations, internal policies, and applicable regulations
  • Support audits, reporting, and control testing related to card operations
  • Escalate operational risks, fraud trends, or system issues proactively
  • Act as a key operational contact for card processors, networks, and vendors
  • Support testing, configuration changes, and new card feature rollouts
  • Assist with incident management and root-cause analysis for card-related outages or issues
  • Prepare operational reports on volumes, exceptions, disputes, and performance metrics
  • Identify process gaps and recommend automation or efficiency improvements
  • Contribute to documentation of procedures, workflows, and operational playbooks
  • Support additional team end-to-end processing of all payment transaction types, including ATM, ACH, wires, checks, Zelle, real-time payments, and file processing.
  • Support monitoring payment queues, exceptions, and error reports to ensure timely resolution and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives requiring operational expertise.
  • Other such duties as assigned.
