About The Position

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Child Support Services Division. The payment adjustor position is responsible for reviewing, auditing, and adjusting child support debt accruals to ensure accuracy and compliance with federal regulations and program policies, requiring extensive independent research across multiple automated systems. The role serves as a subject matter expert on SEARCHS debt accrual processes, providing guidance, training, and recommendations to CSSD management, supervisors, and regional staff to improve system use and program efficiency. Duties also include managing accounts receivable, monitoring cases for further action, releasing liens, handling correspondence, establishing recovery accounts, determining eligibility for state tax offset, and representing CSSD in hearings. Requirements

  • Knowledge of communication techniques and methods that enable you to deal with hostile debtors.
  • Must also be able to translate complex accounting concepts into terms.
  • Ability to conceptualize accounting-related procedures, to design, to test and analyze results.
  • Knowledge, Skill, or Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and perform effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of standard accounting concepts, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or related field.
  • One year of job-related experience working with people in child support, auditing, and accounting.
  • Other combination of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
