Job Summary: The PRO is responsible for the configuration of ExPRESS payload racks in the International Space Station's Destiny laboratory, and for coordinating the configuration of systems resources to all NASA payload racks. When a new payload is installed, the PRO configures the rack interfaces to properly support the payload. The PRO also monitors the health and status of both the payload and the rack and, if necessary, coordinates troubleshooting of the payload support structure and payload interfaces. The PRO also is responsible for managing all ground commanding of U.S. payload systems and experiments on the station. The PRO manages the command link, receives and sends command files to the mass storage device and configures the system to allow flight controllers in the Payload Operations Center and remote users to send commands to their equipment on the space station. Job Summary: The Payload Rack Officer (PRO) provides real-time, front room support for timeline execution, configuration, and troubleshooting of the on-board payload facility racks and platforms, as well as commanding interface for payloads. Tasks and assignments tend to be complex, non-routine and/or require a greater level of expertise. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and process to meet goals outlined. Duties are performed under limited supervision.

Requirements

  • Strong technical background in engineering, physics, computer systems, or related fields.
  • Ability to work in a high‑tempo, real‑time operations environment.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills for cross‑discipline collaboration in flight operations.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 0-2 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data or process information.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ISS ops a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Configure payload rack interfaces and onboard systems to support installed experiments and new payload activations.
  • Monitor rack and payload health, troubleshoot anomalies, and coordinate technical resolution activities.
  • Manage all ground commanding for U.S. payload systems, including command file creation, transfer, execution, and command link configuration.
  • Maintain working knowledge of ISS electrical, thermal, power, and command‑and‑control systems relevant to payload operations.
  • Support 24/7 operations through rotating console shifts, ensuring continuous science capability and safe execution of payload operations.
  • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
